FREE Crisis Intervention Group

EMDR R-TEP for Recent Community Tragedy

If you or someone you love has been affected by the recent mass shooting in our community, Cedar & Sage Therapy is offering a free EMDR R-TEP (Recent Traumatic Event Protocol) group to support healing and recovery.

What Is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps people process distressing memories and reduce the emotional impact of trauma.
It allows the brain to “reprocess” overwhelming experiences so they no longer feel as distressing when recalled.

Standard EMDR Therapy is often used for:

  • Past or complex trauma

  • PTSD, anxiety, depression, or grief

  • Long-term or repeated distressing experiences

It’s typically done in individual therapy after some time has passed since the event.

What Is EMDR R-TEP (Recent Traumatic Event Protocol)?

EMDR R-TEP is a specialized, early intervention version of EMDR designed for use soon after a recent trauma — such as a mass shooting, accident, or sudden loss.

It helps the nervous system stabilize and process the traumatic experience before it becomes “stuck,” reducing the risk of long-term symptoms like flashbacks, hypervigilance, or emotional numbness.

Standard EMDR EMDR

Addresses past or long-term trauma

Usually done one-on-one

Involves detailed personal processing

Requires multiple sessions

R-TEP

Addresses recent traumatic events (within weeks or months)

Can be offered in small groups

Focuses on stabilization without detailed sharing

Often provides relief in 1–3 sessions

What to Expect in the Group

  • No one is asked to share details of their experience.

  • The therapist guides the group through gentle EMDR-based exercises using eye movements, tapping, or bilateral stimulation.

  • Participants often leave feeling calmer, more grounded, and more able to move forward.

  • Follow-up one-on-one support is available for anyone who needs additional care.
